
A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service is once again seeking the assistance of the public in locating 14-year-old Destiny Winters. The teen left her designated Government Care Facility Tuesday night [January 7th] after being located in the Fentons Drive, Pembroke area earlier that afternoon and returned to the facility. She is described as brown complexioned, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, of medium build with shoulder-length curly hair. When last seen, Destiny was wearing a black rain jacket, black tights, and black Nike sneakers. She is known to frequent locations in Pembroke including Fentons Drive, Parsons Road, St. Augustine Hill, Middletown, One Way Deepdale and The Glebe Road. So far efforts by police officers to locate her have been unsuccessful.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of 14-year-old Destiny Winters is asked to call police on 295-0011 or her designated Government Care Facility on 292-3699.”
The Bermuda Monetary Authority has a new Deputy CEO in the person of Craig Swan. The BMA’s Board made this announcement that’s effective as of January 1st, with Donald Scott, the Board’s Deputy Chair sharing quote “The candidate group from which Mr. Swan emerged as the preferred candidate was of very high calibre. The group of candidates included persons from Bermuda, USA, Canada, UK, Europe, and Australia. It was diverse in terms of gender, and ethnicity, and included senior regulators and leading executives in financial services, insurance, and banking.
The Board was seeking a proven leader with excellent regulatory experience, superior executive management skills, clarity and relevance of vision in relation to domestic and global challenges facing BMA and Bermuda, and relationship management sensitivities including credibility with international bodies. Mr. Swan met these criteria. As the role of Deputy CEO is positioned as the successor to Mr. Jeremy Cox in his capacity as Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Swan will move to the Chief Executive Officer role at the time Mr. Cox leaves office in 2021.”
A spokesperson said, “For the past four years, the Pembroke Rotary Club has sponsored a Christmas essay competition, open to students of all schools in elementary, middle and senior levels. The chairperson for this event, Dr. Shangri-La Durham-Thompson on behalf of our president Mr. Granville Nusum, is pleased to announce this year’s winners and those who received honourable mentions. On Thursday, January 9, the students, their parents, principals and teachers will be invited to the 7.30 am Rotary breakfast at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club where they will be presented with their prizes and certificates. At this time, the students will also read their winning essays. The winners and those receiving honourable mentions are:

- Honourable Mention: Esther Jeremy of Prospect Primary
- Middle School Winner: Julie Elliot of Mount St. Agnes

The judges for this event were Mr. Gary Edwards a member of the Pembroke Rotary Club; Mrs. Annette Boyle, a retired teacher; and Mrs. Levyette Robinson, Foreign Languages Officer at the Department of Education. We are encouraged that students and teachers take the time each year to consider the elements of Rotary’s Four-Way Test.”
A government spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Post Office [BPO] is pleased to announce that, with the introduction of their new point of sale system, they can now offer customers flexible rental periods [6, 12 and 24 months] at any time during the year, effective January 1st, 2020. The BPO has eight convenient locations across the island offering PO Boxes in small, medium and large sizes.
There is a $25.00 application fee charged upfront for a new PO Box rental, to cover the cost of lock changes and replacement keys at the termination of a customer’s rental. No further fees are due on termination of PO Box rental. Renewal of a PO Box rental remains cheaper than most BPO competitors offering similar services. Two keys will be supplied at the start of the PO Box rental. The charge for additional or replacement keys is $3.00 per key.Replacement locks are $25.00 if required during the rental period.
