Inter-Island Communications News Brief - June 25, 2021

The victim of Monday’s west end serious assault is in the intensive care unit at the hospital, fighting for his life. This from Bermuda Police Service Detective Sergeant Jason Smith who provided an update during a press conference yesterday, explaining the incident involved the victim being attacked by a group of men in the early hours of Monday morning in the Scotts Hill Road, Cricket Lane area.

Our national pandemic recovery process will hit a meaningful milestone next week Wednesday, as England has confirmed we’ll be moved to their Green List. The UK has designed a travel restrictions system that’s color coded – i.e. travellers from countries on the red list can’t enter the United Kingdom unless they’re British or Irish nationals or retain residency rights, travellers from countries on the amber list are required to quarantine at home or the place they’re staying for 10 days and travellers from countries on the green list don’t have to quarantine unless they have positive COVID-19 test upon arrival.

The official website published the following update relating to Bermuda’s transition off the amber list, which reads in part that quote ““Will move to the green list 4am, Wednesday 30 June. If you arrive in England before then, you need to follow the amber list rules.”

This follows our recent country classification upgrades from the World Health Organization’s decision to move us to sporadic cases from community transmission and the US CDC’s upgrade of our covid19 safety level from 4 to 2.

In an effort to help reverse the trend of road collisions and the unsafe driving that leads to them, the Bermuda Road Safety Council is re-introducing their Transportation Plan scheme.

The release on the subject reads in part that quote “The idea of a transportation plan is to have pre-arranged transportation such as minibuses, taxis or ferries for your guests to get safely to and from your event after consuming alcohol. As we are now entering the summer months, there will be an increase of events and parties where alcohol will be consumed. As we are all aware, operating a motor vehicle whilst impaired is not only illegal and dangerous, it can also result in a collision. To these points, the Council encourages all event planners, organizers and hosts of large events, to incorporate a Transportation Plan. Please email the Council at bdarsc@gmail.com if you are planning an event and would like to liaise and work with the BRSC on implementing your Transportation Plan.”
