The anti-apartheid movement in Bermuda demonstrated the power of thinking globally and acting locally. This from former Premier Alex Scott, one of the principals in the fight against South African apartheid that was won some 4 decades ago.

Finally, the local Coast Guard was recently active in the best possible way, making sure that half a dozen people who’d come off their boat were able to safely return to shore.

According to a Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre [BMOC] spokesperson quote, “On Sunday, June 20 at 6:08pm, a rental catamaran was reported capsized off Crawl Point with six persons in the water. A pleasure craft was on scene quickly and the Coast Guard arrived a few minutes after. All six persons were safely rescued and returned to the Hamilton Princess by the Coast Guard. The upturned vessel was towed into Baileys Bay and put on a mooring, to be dealt with by the hire company after the holiday weekend. The incident is to be investigated to determine how the vessel became capsized.”
